Some people start their millinery by learning how to block. For me, I believe that blocking should be one of the last steps in your journey with sinamay. In my opinion, it is important to have an understanding of the fabric and know how to work it in your hands before you learn the technique of blocking.
So I would recommend that you take the Introduction to Sinamay at a bare minimum, but would also recommend the Flat Pattern Sinamay course on top of that, as it will familiarise you with stiffening and wiring.
But it is also possible to take this course without any previous experience in sinamay. It will take you more practice to get it right, but I do take you through the steps as if you are a beginner.
What you'll need:
- Sinamay (at least 2 metres)
- Needle and Thread
- A block
- Wire
- Sinamay Stiffener
- An iron
- A Band/elastic
If you haven't already done so, you should sign up for the FREE course, The Magic of Millinery, which goes through all the different materials and tools needed for each course.
You will have unlimited access to the recordings for the lifetime of the course, guaranteed a minimum of one year from date of purchase, but could be much longer!
